I have a great passion for scientific culture, which I find far superior to humanistic, artistic and so-called social sciences, not at the same level. It is the conviction that our wealth and well-being derive from scientific research and technological development, in their complex interaction with political, legal, cultural and financial institutions. Wealth and well-being do not derive from work or from companies, which instead exploit the scientific and technological knowledge accumulated by society, and the resources of the environment and nature. Studying, reading, travelling, thinking are the things that give dignity to a man, and make him a good citizen of the world, not hard work or accumulation of money.

Between about a thousand volumes in my personal library there are very few books of literature or art, which in general I find of little interest. But I make some very selected exceptions by authors I value. Among these are the stories by Jorge Borges, some pages of Chekhov and Babel, the stories of David Foster Wallace and Raymond Carver. And I value Italo Calvino when he says that Galileo Galilei is the greatest Italian writer of all time. I own over a thousand books, most of them scientific and in English. A partial list, which does not include ebooks but only the physically present volumes on the shelves, is available online in the catalogue of my personal library
