By boat to the island of Montecristo, with the director of GreenPeace, Alessandro Giannì
Monitoring, video surveillance and environmental control system.
In some interesting projects the information technologies video surveillance and sensors have been applied environmental protection, such as control the nesting of endangered species like the Corsican seagull, the big shearwater, the shearwater controlled capture of wild boars and mouflons, monitoring of the state of the sea. These projects have been realized in collaboration with ElbaTech and the Tuscan Archipelago National Park, in the islands of Pianosa, Montecristo, Elba.
The biggest challenge was the networking of cameras and sensors in very remote and wild areas where they obviously weren’t electric power and Internet or mobile connections. The problem has been solved with solar power, large capacity UPS batteries, wireless data connection via radio links (HiperLan) and satellites.
